By default, owners, admins and managers can add groups.
Don’t see this page or button? Your role doesn’t include it. Ask your center’s owner or an admin to give you the role you need.

Before you start

  • A group needs an existing, active course. If you haven’t added one yet, see add a course.

Add the group

1

Open the form

In the sidebar, select Groups, then select Create group.
2

Name the group and set its branch and course

Enter a Group name, and choose the Branch and Course for the group. If the chosen branch has no active course, Cohort shows “This branch has no active course — a group can’t be created.” with a Create course link. The branch and course can’t be changed once the group is created.
3

Assign a teacher, room and capacity

Choose the Teacher, or leave it as Unassigned to add one later. Choose the Room — only rooms in the chosen branch are listed — or leave it as No room. Enter a Capacity if you want to cap how many students can enroll.
4

Set the schedule

Under Days, select each day the group meets — for example Mon, Wed and Fri — then enter the Start time and End time. Also set a Start date and End date.
Cohort only creates the group’s classes once both dates are set. Leave either blank and the group saves with no classes on the schedule — nothing for a teacher to take attendance on — until you add them later from the group’s page. The live preview below the dates shows how many classes the schedule will create; 0 means a date is still missing.
5

Set the grading scale

Under Grading scale, Cohort defaults to Points out of 10 — change it only if you grade this group differently. Choose the Scale type: Points, Percentage or Letter. For Points or Percentage, enter a Maximum points or Maximum (%); for Points, you can also turn on Allow half-point scores. This sets how teachers will enter daily marks for the group.
6

Save

If the teacher or room you picked is already booked for an overlapping class in that date range, Cohort blocks the save and shows a Scheduling conflict error naming the clashing date and time. Choose a different teacher, room, time or date range and try again.

What’s next

Once the group exists, add a student and enroll them in it. Or go back to setting up a new center.
