What to know
- A red bar across the top of the Student console reminds you whose account you’re in, and that every change is recorded.
- You’re working in the student’s real account. If you change something, for example their phone number or language, it changes for the student too.
- Cohort records when you started and every change you make, with your name.
- The session ends on its own after 2 hours at most. To keep going, start again from the student’s page.
- A student’s status doesn’t matter: you can also sign in as a graduated or suspended student.
If it doesn’t work
“This person can't be impersonated: their account is inactive, or they also hold a staff role.”

Cohort only lets you sign in as someone who is just a student at your center. If this person also has another role, for example they also work at your center, or their account has been turned off, you can’t sign in as them.
“This impersonation link expired or was already used. Start again from the admin console.”

The link that opens the Student console works once, for a short time. Close the tab, go back to the student’s page and select Sign in as student again.
