The student has no password yet
A new student can’t sign in until someone at your center sets a password for them, and Cohort doesn’t show whether one has been set. If you’re not sure, set a new one: by default, owners and admins can. See Reset a student’s password. Then give the student the new password together with their student code.

The student code is wrong
Each student has their own code: one letter followed by 7 digits, for example A1234567. Brothers and sisters have different codes, even when they share a parent’s phone. To find the right code, in the sidebar, select Students and search for the student. The code is in the Code column, and under the student’s name on their page. When the student types it:
- Capital or small letter doesn’t matter: a1234567 works too.
- Everything after the first letter is a digit, so a character that looks like O is the digit 0.
- Type the code without spaces. If the code isn’t one letter and 7 digits, the form shows a message under the field and doesn’t try to sign in.

Students can’t reset their own password. Set a new one for them: see Reset a student’s password.

“Too many failed sign-in attempts for this account. Please wait before trying again.”
After 10 failed attempts with the same student code within 15 minutes, signing in with that code is paused for up to 15 minutes. Wait, then try again with the correct code and password.
A student’s status doesn’t affect signing in. Students marked Inactive, Graduated or Suspended can still sign in and see their invoices and history.
