# Reset a student's password

> Set a new password for a student who forgot theirs, or who has never signed in.

Students can't reset their own password. When a student forgets it, someone at your center sets a new one for them. By default, owners and admins can do this.

## Set a new password

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the student">
    In the sidebar, select **Students**, then select the student. You can search by name or student code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the edit form">
    At the top of the student's page, select the ⋯ button, then select **Edit**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the new password">
    Under **Access**, enter a **Password** of at least 8 characters. Leave the other fields as they are.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Select **Save student**.

## Give the student their details

Tell the student their new password and their student code. The code is shown under the student's name at the top of their page, and in the **Code** column of the **Students** list.

The student signs in at [student.cohort.uz](https://student.cohort.uz) with the code and the new password. See [Sign in](/en/getting-started/sign-in).

  A new password doesn't sign the student out on devices where they're already signed in.
