# Add a lead

> Capture a prospective student as a lead so you can track them from first contact to enrollment.

By default, owners, admins and managers can add leads.

<Note>
  Don't see this page or button? Your role doesn't include it. Ask your center's owner or an admin to give you the role you need.
</Note>

## Add the lead

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the form">
    In the sidebar, select **Leads / Pipeline**, then select **Add lead**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the lead's details">
    Enter **First name** and **Phone**. **Last name** is optional.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the source and branch">
    Choose **Source** — how you learned about this person, such as **Instagram**, **Referral** or **Walk-in** — and the **Branch**. Cohort already fills in a branch for you; change it if this lead belongs to a different one.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the optional details">
    Choose a **Course interest** and an **Assign to** staff member, or leave both blank.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Select **Add lead**. The new lead appears in the **New** column of the pipeline.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Move the lead through your pipeline

Select a card to open its **Lead details** panel. Drag a card between the **New**, **Contacted** and **Trial booked** columns — or choose a stage from the panel — to track where each prospect stands; you can move between those three freely, in any order. Select **Log activity** to record a call, message, trial or note as you go.

<Warning>
  **Mark as lost** and **Convert to student** both end a lead's journey, and neither can be undone: a lost lead can't be converted afterward, and converting creates a new, enrolled student record.
</Warning>

## What's next

A converted lead has no password yet. See "Let the student sign in" in [add a student](/en/admin/students/add-a-student) to set one.
